Genetic Recovery Success for AJR

Genetic Recovery Success!

After a problematic history of difficult calving, persistent uterine infections, failure to get back in calf and unsuccessful conventional flushing, AJR Farms from Ellon, Aberdeenshire decided to throw in the towel on one of their top Aberdeen Angus cows.

Luckily for them, Paragon’s Genetic Recovery technology enabled them to have one last throw of the dice.

Champion Calf championing IVF

Aylward Gypsy Rose 5th, born in 2011, soon became a favourite on her owners’ David and Margaret Rutherford’s farm, after winning the title of Champion Calf at the East of England Festival Calf Show. Her first calving was successful, but her next calf in 2017 was born dead weighing in at a whopping 115 kg. She prolapsed and was down for 10 days before finally making a recovery. With doubts over whether she would get in calf again the Rutherfords decided to have her flushed by Peter May, with the hope of generating some offspring from her.

OPU Results

George Borland from Ayrshire was delighted with the OPU results from his 3 donor cows, GlenvalleyBreakout Talulah, Kepcilloch Talent Summer 3 and Newabbey Shout Dellia, which yielded a total of 16 embryos between them.

George was keen to retain the genetics from these 3 donors and was not disappointed with the results! He made use of the Activf-ET voucher scheme launched at the Semex Conference in January to try out IVF for the first time. He hopes to transfer the embryos into recipients in the autumn.
